For the past week in metal tech we have been learning about engines and gearboxes, we learned alot of the functions of engines and gears, such as the differences between petrol and diesel and gearboxes and transmissions. We also learned about 4WD, rpm, torque horsepower and more. Today we learned that a transmission uses a torque converter and primary/secondary drums for an automatic car. A gearbox uses a flywheel that has the gears in a input (which the power from the engine comes) and the output shaft (which is what gear you selected.
Here are some questions i was asked to answer (Gearbox)
Which engine do I prefer?
Petrol
Why?
Because of the less fuel mileage and higher rpm
What is the difference between diesel and petrol?
Petrol would have more rpm and it is more eco friendly but costs more and diesel has more torque to pull themselves up places like steep hills and to get unstuck and costs lest but more fuel mileage and releases alot of CO2 into the environment.
Transmission or gearbox?
I would choose transmission
Why?
Because it would be easier to control and you can just cruise along the road without having to switch gears and not stalling the car
