Probability Introduction

This week so far we have been learning a new subject which is probability. So far we have learned about the likeliness of something happening, a number line and more. We have made probability scale today and looked at the chances if something happening.

Probability is the chance of something happening. It could be Impossible, equal or certain. You can put it on a number line from the numbers 1 to 0, with any other numbers in between. You can also use other words that you think you would put for the situation. And you can think of what the outcome would be. For example: If you roll a dice what would be the chance of not getting a 2, well you would have to think that there is six sides which makes as a fraction a 6 as the denominator and that there is only one 2. The probability of not getting a 2 would be 5/6 or in my words highly likely.

Here is the probability scale I made today.

So the probability scale is a number line from 0 to 1. 0 is the lowest chance also known as impossible with 1 at the highest chance also known as certain. There can be many other numbers on the number line, some being 0.25, 0.5 as equal and 0.75, there can only be the words impossible, equal and certain that you can put as words because putting any other words is up to you. There can also be different chances on the number line like probably, slim chance, highly likely, highly unlikely and many many more.

The second slide includes all of the vocab I could think of and put into an image using word art. The biggest word being probability since that is the main word in probability. There are many different words in the image that I could think of.

  1. Impossible, equal and certain are correctly labelled. Unlikely looks like it has a value of 0.25 on your line ?? You could also add words like possible, highly likely, low chance and discuss how they do not have exact values.
